**1. Position Description**
This is a pivotal part-time role, approximately 30 hours per week, combining the hands-on energy of a bartender with the crucial responsibilities of an assistant manager. Reporting directly to the Venue Manager, you will be a key figure in ensuring the smooth and successful operation of New Guernica. This customer-facing role requires a proactive and engaged individual who can seamlessly transition between serving patrons and overseeing critical operational functions, particularly during peak trade periods. You will play a vital part in maintaining our high standards of service, safety, and unforgettable customer experiences.
**2. Tasks**
As a Bartender / Assistant Manager, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Customer Service & Sales:
Crafting and serving a wide range of beverages efficiently and to a high standard.
Actively driving sales through upselling and promoting specials.
Ensuring an exceptional customer experience, handling patron complaints and feedback with professionalism and a solution-oriented approach.
Team Leadership & Support:
Managing and supporting bar and floor staff during trade, providing guidance and fostering a positive work environment.
Assisting with staff training and development where required.
Operational Management:
Performing comprehensive cash-up procedures at the end of each shift.
Executing venue opening and closing responsibilities to ensure readiness and security.
Completing accurate End of Day (EOD) reporting.
Conducting regular stock takes, managing stock ordering, and overseeing deliveries to maintain optimal inventory levels.
Assisting with the creation and management of staff rosters.
Venue Management (in absence of the Venue Manager):
Overseeing overall venue operation, ensuring all areas run smoothly.
Managing security personnel and handling incident reporting promptly and effectively.
Ensuring strict compliance with all licensing regulations (e.g., RSA, trading hours).
Operating and monitoring venue camera systems for safety and security.
Upholding and enforcing Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) standards.
Coordinating with event runners, DJs, and managing sound and lighting for performances and events.
Demonstrated Experience: Solid experience as a bartender coupled with previous assistant management or supervisory experience in a similar venue.
Exceptional Customer Service Skills: A genuine passion for delivering outstanding service and creating memorable experiences for patrons.
Leadership Acumen: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and support a team effectively during high-pressure situations.
Operational Proficiency: Experience with cash handling, EOD reconciliation, opening/closing procedures, and stock management.
Problem-Solving & Adaptability: A calm and decisive approach to managing unexpected situations, patron complaints, and incidents.
Technical Familiarity: Understanding of basic sound and lighting systems for event coordination.
Regulatory Knowledge: A strong understanding of licensing compliance, OH&S requirements, and security protocols relevant to nightclub operations in Victoria. Current RSA certificate is essential.
Reliability & Flexibility: Available for evening and weekend shifts, which are essential for a nightclub environment.
Initiative & Proactiveness: A self-starter who can take ownership of tasks and contribute to improving venue performance and customer satisfaction.
Excellent Communication: Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
