About the role:

We are seeking an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Community Education Counsellor to join our teams on a part-time basis.

Responsibilities include providing educational counselling and support services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and their families/carers, participating in the development of activities to enhance education involvement, and establishing links with out-of-school sources of information and support services.

  • Provide educational counselling and support services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and their families/carers.
  • Participate in the development of activities likely to enhance the involvement in education of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and their families.
  • Develop and undertake support service programs designed to meet the needs of the school/s that will encourage educational participation.
  • Establish and maintain links with out of school sources of information and support services to assist in the advancement of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Provide information to the school community about Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander social and cultural perspectives.
  • Provide advice and information to school administrators regarding Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander social and cultural protocols.

A mandatory requirement is a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.

Verification of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Island heritage requires identification as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, descent from an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander ancestor, and acceptance by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
