Aboriginal Community Support Coordinator

About the Role:

• We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person to fill this role.

The Community Counsellor will provide educational counselling and support services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and students across multiple schools.

This position requires participation in the development of activities that enhance education involvement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families. The successful candidate must be able to establish and maintain links with out-of-school sources of information and support services.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be an effective team player, and have the ability to utilise state and commonwealth funded school-based programs for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.

This is a genuine occupational requirement that the position be filled by an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person.

Verification of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Island heritage is required. This may involve providing confirmation of their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.

A current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services is mandatory.

• To provide educational counselling and support services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and students.
• To participate in the development of activities to enhance the involvement in education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families.
• To develop and undertake support service programs designed to meet the needs of the school/s.
• To establish and maintain links with out-of-school sources of information and support services.
• To provide information to the school community about Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander social and cultural perspectives.
• To utilise state and commonwealth funded school-based programs that focus on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and communities.
• To provide advice and information to school administrators regarding Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander social and cultural protocols.
• To ensure that relevant information concerning Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander social and cultural issues is readily available to all members of the school community.
• To participate in activities to develop productive partnerships between members of the school community.

• Degree in Counselling, Education, or related field.
• Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent or accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the community.
• Working with Children Clearance (blue card).
