Obstetrics and Gynaecology Medical Officer Role

The Career Medical Officer position involves general experience in labour ward management and gynaecology operating. You will provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas.

You will work closely with consultants and other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest standard of patient care. The department offers training opportunities for CMO grade doctors, including access to consultants on the floor, training and attendance at regular morbidity and mortality meetings.

Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and trauma centre for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. Wyong Hospital provides inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast.

In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute has been established, providing additional opportunities in training and research.

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • A minimum of 4 post graduate years working in an acute hospital setting with a minimum of 12 months Obstetrics & Gynaecology as a Career Medical Officer, Trainee or Senior Resident Medical Officer.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills (at the required level of competency) and judgment and expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  • Demonstrated time management, problem solving skills and excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills, with minimum of 30 words per minute.
