Job Title: Youth Outreach Specialist

Description:

This role provides specialist alcohol and other drugs (AOD) outreach support to young people in need. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with clients, their families, and the broader community to deliver holistic, family-inclusive, and culturally sensitive care.

The key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive health assessments, providing AOD support, intake and assessment, brief interventions, care planning, case work, mental health system navigation, motivational interviewing, and single session therapy. This position requires a strong understanding of adolescent development issues, common health needs of young people, and harm minimisation orientated treatment and prevention interventions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide specialist AOD outreach and support for youth accessing services
  • Conduct intake and assessment, brief interventions, care planning, and case work
  • Navigate mental health systems and apply motivational interviewing and single session therapy with young people aged 12-25
  • Deliver developmentally appropriate, holistic, family-inclusive, and culturally sensitive care
  • Facilitate referrals to other health and social services to improve recovery outcomes
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong understanding of the needs, issues, and sensitivities of people from diverse backgrounds. You will also require experience as a community-based AOD outreach worker, conducting comprehensive health assessments, delivering clinical interventions, and working with young people aged 12-25.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Understanding of adolescent development issues and common health needs of young people
  • Knowledge of harm minimisation orientated treatment and prevention interventions in the alcohol and drug field
  • Experience delivering clinical interventions, brief interventions, or health-promoting programs within the scope of practice for young people
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
