Job Description:We are seeking an experienced leader with a proven track record in managing RTI applications, providing expert advice on RTI and IP obligations, and overseeing privacy activities. As the head of our RTI unit, you will be responsible for leading a team of RTI practitioners, making and supervising the making of defensible decisions under the RTI Act, and ensuring capacity and capability in the department to deliver expert advice and sound RTI decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage RTI applications for the department, the Office of the Premier, and the department's portfolio bodies
  • Provide strategic leadership and expert advice on RTI and IP obligations
  • Oversee privacy activities, including privacy complaints under the IP Act and reported breaches of the IP Act
  • Drive the implementation of changes introduced by the Information Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2023

Requirements:We are looking for an experienced leader who can expertly navigate the sensitivities and complexities associated with managing RTI applications for a central agency. You will use exceptional judgement and communication skills to work collaboratively and cooperatively with clients, departmental staff, stakeholders, and the public. To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • A strong understanding of the RTI Act and IP legislation
  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills
  • Able to make and supervise the making of defensible decisions under the RTI Act
