About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underwriter to join our team at TAL Services Limited. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will play a critical role in maintaining our risk philosophy and profitability through excellent underwriting standards and building relationships with our allocated TAL Advisers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwriting Excellence: Provide high-quality underwriting services in line with our Underwriting Philosophy and Practices to maintain a profitable risk portfolio.
  • Application Assessment: Assess new applications within agreed timeframes and service standards, ensuring timely and accurate decision-making.
  • Tele-Underwriting: Complete tele-underwriting where appropriate or required, utilizing your expertise to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Case Management: Decline or defer cases when necessary, following internal procedures and maintaining accurate and thorough underwriting notes.
  • Claim Referrals: Assist with claim referrals within agreed service standards and timeframes, ensuring seamless communication with stakeholders.
  • Customer Engagement: Communicate openly with customers, peers, and partners using various communication strategies, fostering strong relationships and delivering exceptional customer experiences.
  • Business Acumen: Demonstrate a strong business acumen, with a sound knowledge of current policies and procedures, and apply them effectively to drive business outcomes.
  • Decision-Making: Make informed and timely decisions, weighing risks and outcomes using sound risk awareness and management practices.
Requirements
  • Experience: Over 5 years of underwriting experience gained in an environment requiring development of new and innovative approaches.
  • Certification: Certificate IV in Life Insurance or equivalent.
  • Skills: Strong medical and underwriting skills and qualifications, with a tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of life insurance underwriting philosophies, approaches, and technologies, as well as excellent knowledge of trends in life insurance, underwriting, and innovation.
  • Commercial Acumen: Commercially astute and a strong customer focus, with excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Autonomy: Ability to work autonomously and plan own work with high attention to detail, providing support, training, and assistance to less experienced Underwriters as required.
