Job Summary

The Family Support Specialist will work collaboratively with families to empower them to make effective changes and overcome identified challenges. This role involves outreach work, engaging families in their homes, and building strong partnerships to support their needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies to build parenting capability, skills, and knowledge that promote healthy child rearing.
  • Facilitate the implementation of structured family routines to improve household management, healthy eating, and quality family time.
  • Support parents in managing stress and personal wellbeing, including coordinating access to mental health services.
  • Ensure all children meet developmental milestones by facilitating access to paediatric and allied health services.
  • Improve financial health by achieving meaningful employment and/or training.
  • Enhance school attendance and educational engagement.
  • Enrol children in kindergarten and promote family participation in early years playgroups.
  • Secure family safety and stability.
  • Reduce substance misuse and improve family health through preventative health assessments.
  • Improve dental care through regular check-ups.
Requirements
  • Current Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field, with 4 years' relevant experience in family support, child protection, or youth support.
  • Or, current Diploma in Community Services, Social Work, or related field, with 5 years' relevant experience in family support, child protection, or youth support.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a case management role.
Desirable Skills
  • Ability to work in a performance-driven environment to meet individual targets.
  • Experience in building client agency and self-efficacy.
  • Knowledge of behaviour change interventions and ability to provide holistic care.
  • Ability to work with high-risk and crisis clients.
  • Knowledge of supports available for clients in areas of mental health, substance misuse, education, employment, and housing.
Additional Requirements
  • Requirement to travel across the Logan and/or Brisbane region.
  • Current drivers' licence.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard business hours.
  • Working with Children's Card (Blue Card) or eligibility to apply.
  • Valid police check.
