Job Role Overview:

The Aboriginal Liaison Officer role plays a vital part in building relationships with clients and families across the Perth metropolitan area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver culturally safe support to Aboriginal patients
  • Participate in ongoing assessments of client progress and contribute to review processes.
  • Develop professional networks, participate in community projects and provide support to local committees and other groups.
  • Collaborate with Child Health Nurses or Coordinators to deliver health education, advice and support to clients.
  • Liaise with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal organisations and healthcare professionals to provide ongoing care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Organize cultural education programs and workshops on hospital liaison issues for staff and clients.
  • Provide support to other service providers to ensure quality care through shared case management.

Requirements:

  • Experience advocating on behalf of Aboriginal clients and demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal culture and customs and its impact on health outcomes.
  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care Practice or equivalent qualification from a relevant industry or profession.
  • Current Full Western Australian Driver's Licence.
  • Working With Children Check.
  • Fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
  • National Police Clearance within the past six months.
