Job Description">

Our team is seeking a dedicated individual to support key activities involving working with Aboriginal people who have lived experience of trauma and requires an understanding of both the principles of cultural safety, and the gravity of this reform for impacted Aboriginal Victorians.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and implementing appropriate and relevant cultural supports to programs and services. This includes facilitating applicant access to culturally safe counselling, legal advice, financial counselling and other support services as appropriate.

Required Skills and Qualifications:">
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal community, society and culture and the issues impacting on these.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community.

A relevant qualification or experience in health, Aboriginal community control, social work, counselling or psychology is desirable. Training in trauma-informed care is highly desirable.

The Aboriginal Justice Group of our department is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, to connect, support and deliver better outcomes for the Aboriginal community. The group works in partnership with Traditional Owners and the Victorian Aboriginal community to embed the principles of self-determination in the justice sector.

The Stolen Generations Reparations Unit:">

The Stolen Generations Reparations Unit (SGRU) was established to implement the Reparations Package to help address the trauma and suffering caused by the forced removal of Aboriginal children from their families, culture and Country. The team is committed to delivering a reparations process that is fully supported, accessible, transparent and trauma informed.

About this Role:">

As the Support Coordinator you will play a critical role in supporting key activities that involve working with Aboriginal people who have lived experience of trauma and requires an understanding of both the principles of cultural safety, and the gravity of this reform for impacted Aboriginal Victorians.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Coordinate and action the implementation of appropriate and relevant cultural supports to programs and services.
