About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Officer/Senior Research Officer to join our team in the Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Research (TropWATER) at James Cook University.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to an expanding program in coastal river ecology, water quality, and wetland systems repair
  • Work with a team of scientists on research projects for government, industry, and non-government partners
  • Design, analyze, and interpret environmental data sets and experiments
  • Develop and implement research projects, including preparing funding proposals and sourcing opportunities
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and collaborators to advance research goals
  • Mentor postgraduate students and contribute to the development of research outputs
Requirements
  • PhD or Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 6 years of professional experience in coastal ecology and water quality
  • High-level experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation skills
  • Experience in tropical river estuarine or coastal ecology, water quality, and wetland repair ecology
  • Project management skills, including preparing funding proposals and sourcing opportunities
  • Research outputs, including technical reports and publication of scientific results in peer-reviewed journals
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft and database/statistical software
  • Experience with organizing and managing field programs and logistical operations
