Director of Litigation and Justice

The Director of Litigation plays a pivotal role in leading the litigation team, driving strategic decisions, and ensuring effective performance under the Legal Profession Act.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice on Commissioner functions, statutory responsibilities, and service deliverables.
  • Lead and effectively manage the litigation team, fostering a positive culture and understanding individual roles in achieving business outcomes.
  • Prepare, instruct, and appear in discipline applications, prosecution of summary offences, injunction applications, conferences, and hearings before disciplinary bodies, courts, and agencies.
  • Advise, mentor, support, and provide leadership to staff, promoting a team environment built on good work ethic, interactive practice, and quality results.
  • Review, develop, and drive complex legislative and policy change to enhance the Commission's undertaking of its statutory obligations and regulatory functions.
  • Proactively monitor and improve policies, procedures, work practices, and management systems to maintain high standards of service delivery.
  • Be admitted as an Australian lawyer, eligible for a practising certificate in Queensland, and adhere to the Australian Solicitor Conduct Rules.
  • Be responsible for statutory delegations and required to travel within Queensland for court or tribunal hearings, possessing a current driver's licence.

As a member of the senior leadership team, you will:

  • Provide leadership and appropriate management of resources, ensuring statutory powers and functions are applied effectively.
  • Oversee the strategic and litigation performance.
