The Role

We're seeking a skilled and collaborative Systems Engineer Lead to own the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems engineering, integration, and testing activities across the full lifecycle of cutting-edge aerospace vehicles and their supporting elements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and support a multidisciplinary team of systems and test engineers.
  • Manage systems engineering activities across the full lifecycle—from concept to deployment.
  • Collaborate with other Engineering Leaders to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes.
  • Continuous improvement of company tools and processes for systems engineering, integration, and testing activities across the lifecycle, ensuring consistent application across all projects.
  • Coordinate systems engineering training initiatives for engineering team members.
  • Team management for shared systems engineering resources.
  • Creation and technical review of systems engineering artefacts.
  • Oversee integration, testing, and specialty engineering activities—including reliability analysis, FMECA, and root cause investigations—in alignment with the HLS Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP).
  • Perform top-down systems design for new products, including functional analysis, decomposition, and requirements derivation.
  • Plan and conduct system integration and verification planning, including in-house environmental testing.

The Person

To succeed on this role you must be open and receptive to change, have a 'can-do' attitude, be adaptable to shifting priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

To be successful you will need:

  • Bachelor degree in an Engineering or STEM discipline.
  • Experience in a team lead, engineering management, or coordination role in a complex setting (approximately 5 years+)
  • Hands-on experience in systems engineering (approximately 5 years+)
  • Familiarity with the full systems engineering lifecycle, from operational concept through to system verification and deployment.
  • Strong leadership with a supportive, hands-on approach.
  • Agile decision-making and a logical approach to technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Resilience and adaptability in complex environments.
  • Proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Office, Jira, and MS Project.

Supplementary Requirements

  • Driver's License, preferred.
  • Background checks, including Australian National Police clearance check.
  • All candidates must have the right to live and work in Australia on a permanent basis.
