About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Analytical Chemist Team Lead to join our team at the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. As a key member of our Analytical Services Branch, you will be responsible for leading a team of chemists and providing technical expertise in the analysis of complex samples.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Organize, motivate and contribute to the overall performance of a team of chemists, ensuring that quality standards and turnaround times are met.
  • Technical Expertise: Independently analyze samples with complex matrices, using innovative initiatives for Antimicrobial / Veterinary and other residues.
  • Quality Assurance: Identify deviations of data during analysis at reporting and authorisation stages to monitor and ensure efficient delivery of laboratory reports.
  • Communication: Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including strategic stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement: Engender and lead a culture of flexibility, adaptability and Continuous Improvement to enable agile responses to new demands and improve laboratory processes and service outcomes.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in a scientific field (chemistry or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in analytical chemistry, preferably in a NATA accredited laboratory
  • Experience in leading teams and managing workflow
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
