Remote Census Engagement Manager

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Remote Census Engagement Manager. This position will play a key role in maximizing participation in the 2026 Census by connecting the ABS with stakeholders and members of the community in regional and remote areas.

This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively. The successful candidate will have experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and a strong understanding of the local area and its needs.

About the Role
  • Plan, coordinate and deliver Census engagement activities for assigned regions.
  • Maintain records of engagement activities via the ABS Stakeholder Management System.
  • Develop, update and review engagement plans for assigned regions.
  • Promote participation in the Census through community visits, promotional activities and presentations.
  • Connect with communities, establish networks and maintain relationships.
  • Collaborate with other Census and ABS staff to provide cultural considerations and area-level intelligence.
  • Gather support from Local Government and community organizations for the Census.
  • Provide in-field assistance for Census operational activities.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
Key Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience or knowledge in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Ability to connect and engage with a range of service providers and develop strong working relationships.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Capability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
