Job Overview

The role of a Family Support Worker is to provide critical assistance to families where a parent struggles with mental health challenges.

This position plays a vital role in promoting family well-being and reducing the impact of parental mental illness on all family members.

Families affected by parental mental illness face significant difficulties, and our team works collaboratively with them to develop and implement strategies that promote family-inclusive practice.

About the Role
  • Deliver targeted support to children and young people up to 25 years old, including young carers
  • Develop strong relationships with family members, carers, and other service providers
  • Contribute to the provision of a whole-of-family approach to service delivery
Key Responsibilities
  1. Family Support: Provide emotional support and guidance to children and young people affected by parental mental illness
  2. Collaboration: Work closely with family members, carers, and other service providers to develop and implement personalized support plans
  3. Community Development: Contribute to community-based initiatives that promote family-inclusive practice and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness
Requirements
  • Certificate IV in Community Services or equivalent
  • Knowledge of young caring roles and their impact on carers' health and wellbeing
  • Understanding of mental health and community service delivery systems
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
