Job Title: General Manager Scientific Services

QIMR Berghofer is seeking a highly accomplished leader to manage our Scientific Services Department, providing strategic direction, operational planning, and innovation to deliver high-quality and timely services to our researchers.

About the Role:

This is a full-time appointment located in Herston, Brisbane, with a competitive remuneration package to be negotiated with the right candidate. Attractive salary packaging options and superannuation will form part of this package.

About QIMR Berghofer:

QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading translational medical research institute focused on improving health by developing new diagnostics, better treatments, and prevention strategies. Based in Herston, Brisbane, and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students, and non-research staff.

About Scientific Services:

The Scientific Services Department provides research support in key operational areas and specialist facilities, including Flow Cytometry, Microscopy, Metabolomics, Statistics, Animal Facility, and more. Scientific Services plays a significant role in supporting our researchers and is an integral part of the Institute.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a large team in delivering scientific services and advanced technologies to over 60 research groups.
  • Manage budgets, forecasts, and contracts for multi-million-dollar equipment and specialist services.
  • Develop key management capabilities, including coaching and mentoring all Scientific Services personnel.
  • Provide strategic direction, operational planning, and innovation to deliver high-quality and timely services to the Institute.
Requirements:
  • Highly accomplished leader with a successful track record of managing complex operations in a medical research/scientific environment.
  • Scientific qualifications, with a Ph.D. desirable.
  • Highly developed research, analytical, planning, organisational, interpersonal, consultation, and negotiation skills.
