Job Description

Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Clinical Manager to lead our Primary Health Care team. This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of our community members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Provide strategic leadership and management to the Primary Health Care team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and services.
    • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
  • Clinical Operations
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Primary Health Care service, including clinical and administrative functions.
    • Ensure the effective management of resources, including staff, budget, and equipment.
  • Quality Improvement
    • Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and services.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Staff Development
    • Provide leadership and guidance to staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality patient care.
    • Develop and implement training programs to enhance staff skills and knowledge.
  • Community Engagement
    • Develop and maintain relationships with community members, stakeholders, and other healthcare providers to ensure effective collaboration and communication.
    • Engage with the community to understand their needs and preferences, and to develop services that meet those needs.
Requirements
  • Qualifications
    • Eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a registered nurse, with a minimum of 2 years' experience working in a remote or regional community.
  • Skills and Knowledge
    • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of indigenous culture and social determinants of health.
    • Ability to analyze and interpret relevant data to guide continuous quality improvement.
    • Highly developed managerial skills, including knowledge and demonstration of behaviors that support innovation and development of strategies to improve service delivery.
Selection Criteria
  • Essential Minimum Requirements
    • An understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal Community Control and self-determination.
    • An understanding of the issues faced by Yolngu people living in remote settings.
    • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
    • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a registered nurse, with a minimum of 2 years' experience working in a remote or regional community.
    • Excellent communication skills that build and lead a team to ensure excellent relationships internally and with external stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of indigenous culture and social determinants of health.
    • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from a diverse culture, where English is not their first language.
    • Demonstrated commitment to supporting and developing a Yolngu empowered workforce.
    • Experience managing conflict, performance issues, and in supporting teams to develop and grow in a challenging environment.
    • Highly developed managerial skills, including excellent knowledge and demonstration of behaviors that support innovation and development of strategies to improve service delivery and cohesion among the team.
    • Ability to analyze and interpret relevant data to guide continuous quality improvement and demonstrated experience and understanding of the accreditation process.
    • Demonstrated ability to be solutions-focused by adapting practice, policies, standards, and guidelines to meet changing demand and changing situations.
    • Highly developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences, and sensitivities that influence healthcare and delivery of service programs for individuals and groups.
    • Current manual NT driver's license.
    • Current Remote Emergency Care course and/or Advanced life support.
    • Immunisation certificate appropriate for the Northern Territory.
  • Desirable
    • Graduate Diploma beyond entry-to-practice in specialty area of clinical nursing/midwifery.
    • Ability to speak an Aboriginal language from the region and/or knowledge of traditional kinship systems operating in the region.
