As the largest non-government education system in Australia, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director, Governance to lead our multi-disciplinary team and provide strategic leadership and oversight of legal and professional standards, governance, and information management.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will provide expert legal and commercial advice to the Executive Director and leadership team, ensuring that MACS operates within canonical and civil law, and that its rights are adequately protected. With experience as General Counsel in a large organisation, you will be recognised as a collaborative and collegiate professional and executive leader with outstanding legal, commercial, governance, and advisory skills.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of legal and professional standards, governance, and information management.
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team and provide expert legal and commercial advice to the Executive Director and leadership team.
- Ensure that MACS operates within canonical and civil law, and that its rights are adequately protected.
- Develop and implement governance and risk management strategies to ensure the effective management of risk and compliance.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including government and regulatory bodies, to ensure effective engagement and communication.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Experience as General Counsel in a large organisation.
- Outstanding legal, commercial, governance, and advisory skills.
- Proven ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team and provide expert advice to senior leaders.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and governance frameworks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
