
Mental Health Support Specialist

This role provides a unique opportunity to utilize your personal experiences in mental health recovery to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
About the RoleAs a Casual Peer Worker, you will be working with clients to provide support and guidance through evidence-based strategies. You will use your lived experience to connect with clients and promote hope and recovery.
- Provide direct assistance to clients, including referrals and linking with appropriate services.
- Conduct brief interventions, including psychosocial support, safety planning, recovery/wellness planning, sensory modulation techniques, advocacy, and mandatory reporting as required.
- Liaise with internal and external service systems to provide tailored interventions.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of a Certificate IV in a Community Services related discipline (ideally Mental Health Peer Worker).
- Hold, or be willing to work towards, a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Worker and complete Safe Story Telling training.
- Personal lived experience of mental health recovery and proactivity in managing your own and others' wellbeing.
- Experience supporting people with their mental health challenges.
Additionally, you will need to have effective listening, communication, and empathy skills, demonstrated problem solving and organisational skills, and ability to work autonomously but also as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Understanding of the principles of duty of care, rights to privacy, and confidentiality is also essential.
