About the Role

This is a key leadership position that requires a highly motivated and experienced Registered Nurse to provide after-hours leadership and management of the nursing team, patient flow, and hospital operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising safe, quality care that meets current best practice standards, supporting and liaising with nurse unit managers and team leaders, ensuring all areas are staffed appropriately and cost-efficiently, coordinating patient flow, overseeing patient and staff safety, taking lead in emergency codes/situations, and demonstrating exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have recent after-hours coordinator or nurse unit manager experience, critical care experience an advantage, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, people leadership skills including mentorship and coaching of team members, demonstrated experience with the coordination and allocation of staff, awareness of health, safety, and wellbeing processes, strong skills in critical thinking and problem-solving, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

  • Responsibilities:
  • Supervise safe, quality care that meets current best practice standards.
  • Support and liaise with respective nurse unit managers and team leaders of wards and departments.
  • Ensure all areas are staffed appropriately and cost-efficient.
  • Coordinate patient flow-patient admissions, liaise with VMO's, emergency department, paramedics.
  • Oversee the safety of all patients and hospital staff.
  • Taking lead in emergency codes/situations.
  • Registered Nurse with 8+ years' experience and current AHPRA Registration.
  • Recent After Hours Coordinator or Nurse Unit Manager experience, critical care experience an advantage.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • People leadership skills including mentorship and coaching of team members.
  • Demonstrated experience with the coordination and allocation of staff.
  • Awareness of Health Safety and Wellbeing processes.
  • Strong skills in critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Thrive in a fast paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Be patient centred, a patient advocate and focused on delivery of quality care.
  • Be proactive and innovative and across the National Standards for Quality and Safety in Health Care.
  • High degree of computer literacy including MS Office.
  • Post graduate qualification in Leadership and Management (or willingness to complete).
  • Knowledge of relevant Enterprise Agreements.
  • ALS trained with current certificate (or willingness to complete).
  • Experience with computer based programs Dimensions (staff time keeping system) and RiskMan (Incident management system).
