About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Domestic Violence Specialist Worker to join our Women's Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (WDVCAS) in the Artarmon office.

This is a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2025, and you will be required to travel between sites to meet clients' needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contact clients referred to WDVCAS in a timely and appropriate manner, conducting a threat assessment to ascertain their current risk status and undertaking safety planning to address a client's immediate safety needs.
  • Liaise with the SAM Coordinator to ensure all clients assessed as 'at serious threat' are placed on the agenda for the next SAM when necessary.
  • Accept electronic referrals from the Central Referral Point and non-electronic referrals direct from government agencies and non-government services.
  • Assist the SAM Coordinator to develop and administer policies, systems, and processes for the effective operation of WDVCAS and SAMs.
  • Attend court days as required to provide information, assistance, and court advocacy for clients.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key partners, including NSW Police Force, Local Courts, legal representatives, and referral agencies.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated understanding of domestic and family violence, its complexities, and consequences.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice response to domestic violence and other related issues.
  • Strong ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis and provide appropriate, trauma-informed support.
  • Ability to deliver services in accordance with the WDVCAP model of service delivery outlined in the WDVCAP Service Agreement.
  • Ability to work with the local community to promote awareness of domestic and family violence and WDVCAS service.
  • Excellent networking and communication skills.
  • Great organisational and administrative skills.
  • Current NSW Driver's License and access to an insured vehicle.

CatholicCare provides a range of services to assist women and children experiencing domestic and family violence. We assist all women, including those from diverse cultural backgrounds, older women, women in same-sex relationships, Aboriginal women, and women who are isolated.

We also provide responses to fathers who have caused harm to their family through violence or the use of coercive controlling behaviours.

Some examples of the services we provide include women's domestic violence court advocacy service, staying home leaving violence program, safe homes, after-hours response team, specialist housing and homeless services, multi-systemic therapy for child abuse and neglect, support groups for women, casework support, and working with men.
