Our division offers strategic advice to the Prime Minister and Cabinet on national preparedness and resilience matters. We facilitate whole-of-government coordination of emergency management and national resilience.
We seek a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Crisis Planning and Response Team. This team drives reforms to crisis management response arrangements and capabilities, supporting alignment with emerging hazard risks and community expectations.
The Senior Adviser is responsible for the Australian Government Crisis Management Framework, the Crisis Arrangements Committee secretariat, and PM&C's Crisis Management function. In a crisis, the Senior Adviser represents the department at government meetings, provides situational updates, and supports the Prime Minister's role in crisis through formal and informal briefings.
The team collaborates with colleagues from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Department of Home Affairs. Experience in dealing with domestic and international crises is desirable.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the Crisis Planning and Response Team to drive reforms in crisis management response arrangements and capabilities
- Manage the Australian Government Crisis Management Framework and the Crisis Arrangements Committee secretariat
- Represent the department at government meetings and provide situational updates during crises
- Experience in policy development, program delivery, and/or stakeholder engagement
- Ability to collaborate and cooperate with colleagues and external stakeholders
- Understanding of government processes, including budget, policy development, strategy, planning, and decision-making
- Negative Vetting Level 2 (Top Secret) security clearance or willingness to acquire one
