Operations Manager Job Description

Fuse Recruitment is sourcing an experienced Operations Manager to join a steel manufacturing facility in Sydney.

  • A leading national company in the steel material distribution industry.
  • Specializing in steel distribution both locally and interstate.

For you:

  • $140,000 - $160,000 per annum + superannuation (dependent on experience).
  • Monday to Friday work schedule.
  • Permanent full-time role.
  • Based at the National head office facility in Erskine Park.
  • Flexibility around start and finish times required.
The Role: Operations Manager

As Operations Manager, you will report directly to the NSW State Manager and oversee 20+ staff across day and afternoon shift operations. You will be supported by shift supervisors on both shifts.

The facility operates two main production lines, including shear and split lines, with a receiving and dispatch operation for local deliveries to customers in Sydney, Central Coast, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, and the ACT.

Your key operational duties will include:

  • Managing day-to-day operations and overseeing 20+ staff across two shift patterns.
  • Mentoring, coaching, retaining, and motivating the operations team, while growing the team and enhancing their capabilities as our business expands.
  • Leading the team in areas of safety, cost productivity, budgeting, forecasting, supplier negotiations, innovation culture, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and SOPs.
  • Identifying opportunities for operational improvement and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and safety.
  • Overseeing transport and distribution to ensure timely delivery and efficient logistics management.
  • Managing procurement processes to maintain optimal inventory levels and supplier relationships.

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • 5+ years of operations management experience in the steel manufacturing industry.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of shear, slit, and roll-forming machinery.
  • Demonstrated ability to continuously improve business processes and manage high-performing teams.
  • Proven leadership, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Customer-centric approach with excellent organizational and prioritizing abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or manufacturing, or relevant experience in a manufacturing or production management role.
