Job Title: Payroll Specialist

As a seasoned payroll expert, you will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of payroll services across multiple clients, leading a capable team, and providing technical guidance on complex payroll matters.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and Coach the Team – Guide junior staff members through daily workflows, provide hands-on training, conduct regular check-ins, and set high standards for quality and consistency.
  • Be the Client’s Trusted Advisor – Act as the escalation point for payroll queries, onboard new clients, establish clear expectations, and maintain open communication channels.
  • Oversee Payroll Operations – Ensure end-to-end payroll cycles are accurate, timely, and compliant across multiple clients.
  • Manage Complexity with Confidence – Handle advanced cases including redundancies, multi-state long service leave, and ETP calculations with precision.
  • Drive Compliance and Governance – Stay up-to-date with legislative changes, conduct audits, and ensure every payroll decision meets regulatory requirements.
  • Leverage Technology – Configure and optimize payroll systems, streamline workflows, troubleshoot system issues, and champion process improvements.
  • Continuously Improve Processes – Identify areas for improvement, develop and implement new processes, and measure their effectiveness.
Requirements
  • 5+ years' experience in payroll management, including time in a leadership or senior role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of payroll legislation, awards, allowances, super, STP, and payroll tax.
  • Advanced skills in payroll software and practice/workflow management systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple clients, budgets, and deadlines.
  • A natural leader with coaching skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Tech-savvy and proactive, always looking for ways to improve efficiency and deliver results.
