Payroll Specialist - Team Leader - Remote

Add expected salary to your profile for insights

At Lucent Advisory, we're not just processing payroll — we're transforming it. As industry leaders in outsourced payroll, we combine deep technical knowledge with smart systems and technology to deliver accurate, compliant, and real-time payroll solutions that give our clients confidence and clarity.

We're seeking a fully remote Payroll Specialist – Team Leader to oversee the delivery of payroll services across a portfolio of clients, lead a capable team, and be the go-to expert for complex payroll matters. This is a role for someone who thrives on leadership, innovation, and client relationships — and who's ready to make an impact.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and coach the team – Guide Payroll Officers through daily workflows, provide technical training, run regular check-ins, and set high standards for quality and consistency.
  • Be the client's trusted partner – Act as the escalation point for payroll queries, onboard new clients, set clear expectations, and keep communication simple, timely, and professional.
  • Oversee payroll delivery – Ensure end-to-end payroll cycles are accurate, timely, and compliant across multiple clients. Step in to process payrolls during busy cycles to maintain hands-on expertise.
  • Manage complexity with confidence – Handle advanced cases including redundancies, multi-state long service leave, and ETP calculations with precision.
  • Drive compliance and governance – Stay on top of legislation and award changes, run audits, and ensure every payroll decision stands up to scrutiny.
  • Leverage technology – Configure and optimise Employment Hero Payroll (KeyPay), streamline workflows, troubleshoot system issues, and champion smarter ways of working.
  • Build what's next – Continuously improve processes, templates, and tools to lift efficiency, accuracy, and client satisfaction.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years' payroll experience (multi-client or multi-award), including time in a senior or leadership role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of payroll legislation, awards, allowances, super, STP, and payroll tax.
  • Advanced skills in Employment Hero Payroll (KeyPay) and practice/workflow management systems.
  • A confident communicator who can explain payroll complexities in clear, client-friendly language.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple clients, budgets, and deadlines.
  • A natural leader with coaching skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Tech-savvy and proactive, always looking for smarter ways to deliver.

What's in It for You?

  • The opportunity to make a real impact by shaping client outcomes and leading a team.
  • A dynamic environment where technology, innovation, and people come together.
  • Ongoing professional development and pathways to grow your career.
  • Work fully remote with flexible hours in a supportive, collaborative culture.

Ready to Lead?

If you're a Payroll Specialist with the leadership skills, technical expertise, and drive to deliver smarter solutions for clients, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today via Seek and include your resume and a cover letter outlining why this role is perfect for you
