About the Role

As a key member of the City Sustainability team, the Land Conservation Officer plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of the City of Palmerston Community Plan.

This role is responsible for the management of Council's nature conservation areas, including:

  • Sustainable Land Management: overseeing activities such as weed and fire management to maintain the health and integrity of these areas.
  • Conservation Planning: developing and implementing revegetation strategies to enhance biodiversity and ecosystem services.
  • Lake Management: ensuring the long-term health and sustainability of our lakes and waterways.
  • Community Engagement: working with stakeholders to educate and raise awareness about the importance of conservation and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement land management plans to achieve conservation goals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver projects and programs that promote sustainability and conservation.
  • Provide expert advice on conservation and land management practices to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures that support the City's sustainability and conservation objectives.

Requirements:

  • Diploma qualifications in Conservation and Land Management or equivalent.
  • Extensive practical experience in land management activities, including project management and contractor supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience in conservation planning and revegetation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines.
