Job Description

The Youth Support Worker plays a pivotal role in providing individualized support to children and young people residing in Kirinari OOHC homes.

These young individuals have experienced childhood trauma, abuse or neglect and may have mental health, physical or psychosocial disabilities.

The successful candidate will be resilient and committed to supporting young people build skills and strengths within a therapeutic model of care, ensuring their safety and empowerment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct person-centred support and care to young people residing in Kirinari OOHC homes, addressing their unique needs.
  • Support young people in developing independent living skills, achieving their goals and engaging with their local communities.
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming home environment, empowering young people to develop skills that enable them to thrive in their community.
  • Foster connections to family and culture, collaborating with other professionals to deliver multi-disciplinary care.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • A commitment to the safety and well-being of children, young people, and individuals with disabilities.
  • An understanding of strength-based trauma-informed practice (or a willingness to learn).
  • Relevant qualifications in Community Services, Residential Care, Welfare, or related areas (Cert IV) highly regarded.
  • Previous experience in residential therapeutic care and complex trauma (highly regarded).
  • A flexible approach, including willingness to work weekends, evenings, and sleepovers.
  • NDIS Workers Screening Check prior to commencement.
  • Paid NSW Working with Children Check prior to commencement.
  • Registration on the NSW Residential Care Workers Register.
  • National Criminal History Check (paid by Kirinari).
  • Physical activity and engagement with young people in games/sport etc.
  • Proficiency in using computers and learning various software/programs.
  • Holding a current Australian Driver's License.
