Research Scientist

As a Research Scientist with the Australian Defence Force, you will be an integral component of the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps (RAAMC), contributing to ADF health capability by undertaking research at the Australian Defence Force Malaria and Infectious Disease Institute (ADFMIDI).
Located at ADFMIDI, a world-recognised centre for infectious disease research and training, you will be part of a team that ensures the ADF has the best possible protection against malaria and other infectious diseases through collaborative research, training and health engagement activities.
The ADFMIDI has strong links with academic and research organisations in Brisbane, Australia, and across the globe.
Your role will involve providing analysis and research on malaria and other vector borne diseases through; evaluation of new drugs, vaccines and personal protective measures, provision of technical advice, risk assessments, and management of disease outbreaks.
You may also be required to assist in the planning, coordination, assembly, and deployment of an ADF research teams within a tri-service, multi-national operational environment under warlike or non-warlike conditions (UN mission, humanitarian disaster response and relief, health engagement and resiliency building).
As a Research Scientist, you will work as a member of a small specialist research team or as an individual, and may have contact with medical providers and patients, and are required to maintain confidentiality whilst being tactful and compassionate.
You will also have contact with a range of service and non-service personnel in both advisory and professional roles, and will be required to communicate effectively in a professional manner both verbally and in writing to maintain effective relationships with supervisors and subordinates, including civilian and international force elements with diverse cultural and political backgrounds as part of a coalition force.
Additionally, you will be required to ensure that all research, equipment and facilities are operated in accordance with appropriate directives and guidelines, adhering to governing and regulatory bodies.
Your work will be performed in a broad spectrum of environments, adapting to a range of workplace conditions and performing duties wherever and whenever the provision is warranted.
Under normal working conditions, you will perform your duties in a range of environments, including climate-controlled purpose-built fixed facilities, mobile deployed health capabilities in a land or maritime environment, operations, training, and in barracks.
As a Research Scientist, you will operate under the same working conditions as the organisation that you are allocated to support.
