Job Description

Our Class Actions practice is seeking a seasoned lawyer to specialize in First Nations compensation work. Applicants from First Nations communities are encouraged.

The successful candidate will be engaged in ongoing Native Title compensation applications, mining disputes, and broader advice to First Nation organizations. They will work closely with new clients to establish relationships and contribute to the preparation of existing matters.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leading and driving Native Title compensation applications for various First Nation people across Australia
  • Contributing to the preparation and conduct of existing matters in collaboration with team members
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clients to build trust throughout their matters
  • Maintaining and building new client relationships for the practice
  • Providing exceptional service to clients and demonstrating cultural competence dealing with First Nations clients

What You Will Bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in law and a current Practicing Certificate
  • More than 4 years post-admission experience working in Native Title and/or First Nations litigation
  • Excellent technical legal skills, including producing technically excellent legal work
  • Exceptional influence and negotiation skills, with effective communication and compassion
  • Demonstrated skills in network and relationship management, and working as part of a team
  • Ability to listen, exercise judgment, and resolve problems expeditiously
  • Commercial acumen and interest in key issues in the class actions sector
  • Passion with a keen sense of social justice
