Job Overview

This position plays a vital role in supporting the identity of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The successful candidate will be responsible for preserving their sense of belonging to family, community, and culture.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support staff, children, and families to improve stability and cultural connection.
  • Work with families, children, staff, and carers to create a cultural plan that meets individual needs.
  • Assist in identifying and locating extended family connections and facilitating reengagement.
  • Liaise with Aboriginal communities and provide mentoring support for children and young people to connect to family, culture, and community.
Requirements:
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • National Police Check.
  • A current driver's licence.
  • Vehicle capable of transporting 4+ people.
  • Comprehensive Car Insurance.
  • Ability to follow protocol and individualized programs designed for young people.
  • Willingness to participate in pre-employment medical checks.
  • Two work-related references.
  • Recognition by local Indigenous groups.
  • Working knowledge of youth work.
  • Extensive experience in Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Knowledge of Needs-Based Restorative Framework concepts and strategies.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Diploma of Community Services.
  • Bachelor of Human Services.
  • Bachelor qualification in a relevant field of study.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to build strong relationships with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders.

They will also have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and be comfortable with change and ambiguity.
