A Medical Defence Solicitor or Associate is sought to join our team in Perth, where you will be part of a purpose-driven group of lawyers passionate about defending medical professionals. This role presents an opportunity for an experienced solicitor or associate to develop their career within Australia's leading specialist medical defence law firm, which has been recognised for its expertise. This is a permanent full-time position with a flexible work arrangement.

Key Responsibilities
  • You will deliver high-quality, timely legal advice and services regarding various medical defence matters to insurance claims managers and members of the medical profession concerning litigated and professional conduct issues, including Medical Board investigations, coronial inquests, Medicare reviews/committees, HCCC claims, and preparing hearings for VCAT.
  • Provide general medico-legal advice to Avant members and Claims Managers.
  • Represent medical practitioners before the Medical Board of Australia, VCAT, Coroners Court, Medicare, and HCC.
Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary legal qualifications are essential.
  • You must be eligible to hold an unsupervised practising certificate as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the High Court of Australia.
  • Demonstrated post-admission experience in private practice (ideally 2-4 years PQE) in medical negligence, professional conduct-related litigation experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in conducting all phases of litigation and/or professional conduct cases.
  • Previous experience in employment law is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of prioritisation, time management, and self-management skills.
  • The ability to mentor and support junior team members.
  • Good computer literacy and competency to work in an electronic document management environment.
