Job Title: Electrical Rolling Stock Design Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Rolling Stock Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our design department, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and support in the electrical design aspects of rail fleet, including metro, high-speed, light rail vehicles or locomotives.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone at the Senior/Principal level with a focus on hands-on involvement in the design process. You will have the chance to work closely with internal teams and customers to deliver high-quality designs that meet rail industry regulations and client requirements.

  • Design and Development: Provide specialist engineering guidance and expertise related to the electrical engineering discipline, primarily focused on rolling stock/locomotive products
  • Design Review: Design and checking/review of rail components and systems ensuring they conform to required rail and safety standards – including engineering specifications, design layouts, cost estimates
  • Failure Analysis: Diagnose and correct failures and deficiencies within existing rolling stock
  • Compliance: Ensure designs comply with rail industry regulations and client requirements
  • Cost Effectiveness: Incorporate whole life costs into design changes, ensuring that designs are cost effective
  • Team Collaboration: Team mentorship and stakeholder engagement, including liaising with internal teams, as well as customers
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need the following skills and qualifications:

  • Certified Professional Engineer (CPEng), Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) or Member Institution of Engineers Australia (MIEAust)
  • Electrical Engineering Degree
  • Experience in the design and manufacture or retrofit of rolling stock or electrical auxiliaries such as traction motors, instrumentation, pantographs, converters, control systems as well as supporting electrical infrastructure related to the trains
  • CAD experience
  • Familiarity with rail standards such as EN, RISSB and AS/NZ
