Government Relations and Public Affairs Lead

About the Role:

  • Develop strategic relationships with governments, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Drive positive outcomes for the community, members, customers, and business.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and execute comprehensive government relations and public affairs strategies.
  2. Build and maintain strong working relationships with key Ministerial contacts, Members of Parliament, government departments, agencies, industry leaders, and regulatory bodies.
  3. Monitor the political environment and proactively identify key areas of public policy impacting the business.
  4. Contribute to the promotion, education, communication, influence, and publication of advocacy messages across all levels of government.
  5. Represent the business at external events, including government hearings and inquiries.
  6. Act as a spokesperson, effectively communicating the business's positions and initiatives to external audiences.
  7. Coordinate internal stakeholder engagement to ensure a holistic approach to engagement with key government contacts.
  8. Provide government relations advice to senior management to achieve key outcomes.

About You:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, or a related field.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, such as communications, political science, or public relations.
  • Proven track record in developing and executing successful government relations and public affairs strategies.
  • Deep understanding of the political process and regulatory environment.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to manage complex negotiations.
  • Ability to initiate and manage projects, develop strategies, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities within a team environment.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion handling confidential information.
  • Will to travel frequently for key meetings and occasional interstate and overseas trips.
