About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mission Critical Facility Specialist to join our team in Sydney. As a key member of our infrastructure team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of our data centers meet the highest standards of safety, security, and reliability.

Your primary responsibility will be to provide full life-cycle support to our data centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance. You will be the go-to engineering resource for your region when technical advice is needed, leveraging your subject matter expertise to engage with diverse teams.

As a seasoned professional, you will have extensive experience with industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, and oil/gas facilities. Your ability to read, interpret, and create construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents will be crucial in driving project success.

A day in the life of a Mission Critical Facility Specialist at Amazon involves collaborating with various teams responsible for all aspects of our data centers. You will prioritize activities to support data center capacity availability and safety, focusing on actions that are most impactful. This role offers the opportunity to work on projects locally and globally, driving innovation and excellence in every aspect of our data center operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with colo vendors to review designs for new data centers, ensuring they meet AWS expectations.
  • Act as resident engineer during new colo construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Troubleshoot site/equipment failures, conducting root cause analysis and creating corrective action documentation.
  • Provide technical support for operational issues, including ad-hoc training and complex operating procedure reviews.
  • Support operational partners in leading, reviewing, and approving designs for existing co-location (colo) data center upgrades.
