Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Worker

This role plays a pivotal part in fostering cultural connection and awareness across services, ultimately enhancing the experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples accessing support in QLD.

Culturally responsive practice is at the heart of this position. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing or sourcing culturally appropriate resources and training materials for staff and clients.

  • Develop culturally relevant resources and training materials for staff and clients.
  • Organise and facilitate Yarning Circles and Learning Circles aligned with the Cultural Capability and Competency Framework.
  • Conduct regular site environment reviews to ensure cultural safety.
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure individual case plans reflect cultural needs.
  • Implement strategies to communicate and embed cultural capability practices.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with Indigenous organisations to improve participant access and support pathways.
  • Stay informed on state and national policies affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of contemporary challenges and strengths within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. They will be able to engage respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and service providers.

A strong track record of engaging respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and service providers is essential for success in this role.

The selected candidate will have the ability to provide culturally appropriate responses to complex and diverse community needs.

Requirements:
  • Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person (This is a genuine occupational requirement under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (QLD).
  • Relevant experience in a similar role is highly regarded.
  • Proven ability to engage respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and service providers.
  • Strong understanding of contemporary challenges and strengths within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Capacity to provide culturally appropriate responses to complex and diverse community needs.
  • Ability to influence and support leadership in delivering culturally informed services.
