Job Description

The SME Underwriter plays a pivotal role in the personal underwriting of small to medium renewal cases with less complex risk within the SME portfolio of business.

This involves applying laid down strategies to support the profitable growth of the business, fostering strong relationships with clients and brokers, and acting as the first point of contact for all SME underwriting related matters and issues.

  • Personal underwriting of the SME portfolio with particular focus on renewals, and new business policies as required.
  • Providing considered guidance and advice when appropriate and escalating when necessary.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with clients, brokers, and distribution customers placing business with Ansvar Insurance Australia.
  • Assisting the Regional Manager and Product and Underwriting Team in the underwriting and management of the SME portfolio of business.
  • Contribution to the alignment of risk and compliance management practises within the SME portfolio by sitting at the first line of defence.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Underwriting Responsibilities:

  • Applying expertise to evaluate risks and make informed decisions regarding insurance coverage.
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and best practices.

Relationship Building:

  • Fostering strong working relationships with internal stakeholders including Regional Managers, Product and Underwriting Teams, and external stakeholders including clients and brokers.
  • Providing exceptional customer service and support to clients and brokers.

Compliance Management:

  • Ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with the SME portfolio.

Success in this role is measured by the ability to achieve strategic objectives, foster strong relationships, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
