Role Description

Central Australian Women's Legal Service is seeking a Youth Lawyer and Educator to join their team. The successful candidate will be based in Alice Springs, working with students, staff, and families at Centralian Senior College.

This role involves delivering legal advice, case work, and referrals, as well as preparing and facilitating community legal education sessions. The Youth Lawyer and Educator will also provide support in partnership with the School Wellbeing Team and conduct remote outreach to engage with regional schools.

Responsibilities
  1. Delivering legal advice, case work, and referrals to students and families;
  2. Preparing and facilitating tailored community legal education sessions;
  3. Providing legal support in partnership with the School Wellbeing Team;
  4. Conducting remote outreach to engage with and support regional schools;
  5. Advocating in collaboration with school and CAWLS colleagues;
  6. Collecting and analysing case data using internal systems;
  7. Supporting school staff to respond to DFSV disclosures and access barriers.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To qualify for this role, you must be eligible to hold a Practising Certificate in the Northern Territory. Key requirements include experience in legal settings relevant to DFSV, family or youth law, as well as experience delivering legal education or community programs in schools.

You should have a strong understanding of legal, economic, and social barriers facing youth, and experience in legal practice, particularly with vulnerable youth or in school/community settings, will be highly regarded.

The Youth Lawyer and Educator will receive a competitive base salary plus 12% superannuation, as well as relocation assistance up to $3,000 and support to make Alice Springs your new home.

Selection Criteria

This is a female-identified position under Sections 30 and 34 of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984. You must hold (or be eligible to obtain) a current NT Driver's Licence, Ochre Card, and National Police Check.
