About the Opportunity

Central Australian Women's Legal Service (CAWLS) is looking for a full-time Youth Lawyer, Educator based in Alice Springs, NT.

This unique position is partially based at Centralian Senior College, and delivers legal support, education and advocacy to students, staff and families — with remote outreach a core component.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Delivering legal advice, case work and referrals to students and families
  • Preparing and facilitating tailored community legal education sessions
  • Providing legal support in partnership with the School Wellbeing Team
  • Conducting remote outreach to engage with and support regional schools
  • Advocating in collaboration with school and CAWLS colleagues
  • Collecting and analysing case data using internal systems
  • Supporting school staff to respond to DFSV disclosures and access barriers
  • Addressing legal issues impacting students' educational engagement
About You

To qualify, you will need to be eligible to hold a Practising Certificate in the Northern Territory.

Experience in legal practice, particularly with vulnerable youth or in school/community settings, will be highly regarded.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience working in legal settings relevant to DFSV, family or youth law
  • Experience delivering legal education or community programs in schools
  • Ability to develop tailored legal education and training resources
  • Familiarity with CALD and First Nations communities
  • Strong understanding of legal, economic and social barriers facing youth

As our ideal candidate, you will demonstrate empathy, adaptability and a passion for working in innovative, non-traditional legal settings. You'll be an excellent communicator and team collaborator with the resilience to work in trauma-informed environments.

This is a unique opportunity to join a ground-breaking youth legal project — helping break cycles of disadvantage and supporting young people to thrive through justice and education.

Please note: This is a female-identified position under Sections 30 and 34 of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984. You must also hold (or be eligible to obtain) a current NT Driver's Licence, Ochre Card, and National Police Check.

About the Benefits

You will receive a competitive base salary plus 12% superannuation (commensurate with skills and experience), along with a great host of benefits, including:

  • Relocation assistance up to $3,000 and support provided to make Alice Springs your new home
  • Six weeks annual leave + an additional 12 days personal leave

  • A supportive work environment with plenty of on-the-job training
  • Paid professional development and upskilling opportunities
