Primary objective

Supervise teams of Youth Justice Officers who provide care, supervision and support to vulnerable individuals and groups in youth justice

detention centres across the Northern Territory; ensuring that the needs of young people are met within a secure, culturally safe and

therapeutic setting in accordance with the Model of Care and relevant legislation.

Context statement

This role is unique in that it works across detention centres and community contexts and with a range of teams and professions to ensure

the appropriate delivery of supervision and integrative services. The service delivery incorporates Aboriginal cultural competence and

safety in the design and delivery of education, programs and activities. The role involves supervising teams within a rotational roster,

including weekends.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide supervision and resource allocation for daily operations of the Youth Detention Centre, ensuring protocols and procedures

are adhered to in the delivery of services

2. Provide guidance of Case Management delivery requirements and accompanying treatment plans. Participate in through-care

discussions to ensure a thorough understanding of requirements

3. Monitor the reporting of issues and incidents to prevent harm, taking a strength-based approach to actively engage and participate

with all aspects of a young person's rehabilitation.

  1. Support high quality service provision and participate in supervision, performance management, wellbeing and continuing professional

development.

  1. Participate in a 24 hour/7 day per week roster program and actively take part in rostered activities.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Certificate IV in Youth Justice.

2. Proven experience in managing teams of people providing services within a youth justice or youth work framework.

3. Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable young people including an understanding of childhood trauma, issues with drug

use, poverty, cultural identify, mental health and disability; and experience in supervising, caring for and working with young people

in a statutory environment.

  1. Well-developed consultative and collaborative skills across multi-disciplinary teams to contribute to the achievement of restorative

care and supervision of young people.

  1. Ability to manage troubling behaviours of young people in a professional manner, including de-escalating and resolving conflict

between young people.

  1. Proven incident management experience and the ability to use verbal and physical de-escalation skills.
  2. High level of personal integrity and ethical standards to ensure you will be an exemplar of Territory Families, Housing and

Communities values and Code of Conduct at all times.

8. Resilient to stressful work environment.

9. Current unrestricted NT Drivers Licence and First Aid certificate with 6 months validity.

Desirable

1. Diploma in Youth Work or other qualifications in a similar field i.e. Community Services or Case Management.

  1. Graduate Certificate in Developmental Trauma.
