Southern Cross University's Faculty of Science and Engineering is seeking a dedicated and skilled technical professional to join our Cooling and Shading sub-program as part of the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program (RRAP). The Research Technician, Mechanical Engineering offers a unique opportunity to work closely with scientists across multiple research organizations to advance cutting-edge marine cloud brightening research.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the correct operation, field deployment, and integration to sampling and spray platforms of specialized instrumentation and technology.
- Develop and manage engineering tools and strategies to optimize research objectives.
- Support research technology development and improvements across all RRAP Cooling and Shading projects.
- Contribute to data and experimental support in both field and laboratory environments.
About You
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong technical background and a passion for environmental research. To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A degree, or extensive industry experience, in marine or atmospheric science, engineering, or a related field.
- At least three years of technical experience working with complex scientific instrumentation or engineering equipment.
- Expertise in scientific instrument and logging communication protocols and data logging for high-level analysis.
- Experience with high-pressure air and water delivery mechanisms, electrical systems, and large engines is desirable, ideally in marine environments.

- HEW Level 6. The base salary ranges from $88,301 - $96,849 per annum, plus 17% employer's contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $113,313.
