Auslan Interpretation Leadership Role

The Auslan Interpretation Lead plays a pivotal role in ensuring effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and staff as well as external stakeholders.

By providing professional interpretation services in Auslan, the role facilitates inclusive practices, enhances accessibility and fosters equitable participation in all organisational activities.

  • Expertise in Auslan interpreting and translation, and deep understanding of Deaf culture, with years of demonstrated experience and training with interpreting and translation.
  • Demonstrated deep understanding of the experiences and challenges encountered by people with disability and or deaf backgrounds.
  • Must hold a Certified Interpreter or higher qualifications, maintain NAATI Certification and commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Must hold a Working with Children Check (WWWC).
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret in live performance settings.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing high-quality Auslan interpretation services for performances and events.
  • Collaborating with staff to ensure effective communication and accessibility.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, including Deaf community organisations and interpreters.
  • Participating in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in Auslan interpreting and translation.
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the experiences of people with disability and or deaf backgrounds.
  • Hold a Certified Interpreter or higher qualifications, and maintain NAATI Certification.
  • Hold a Working with Children Check (WWWC).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
