Lead Interpreter Role

The Sydney Opera House is seeking an experienced Lead Interpreter to play a pivotal role in ensuring effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and staff. This position requires expertise in Auslan interpreting and translation, as well as a deep understanding of Deaf culture.

This role will facilitate inclusive practices, enhance accessibility, and foster equitable participation in all organisational activities. The ideal candidate will have years of demonstrated experience and training with interpreting and translation, including Certified Interpreter qualifications and NAATI Certification.

The successful applicant will be able to interpret in live performance settings and have a demonstrated ability to work in complex fast-paced environments. They will also possess a deep understanding of the experiences and challenges encountered by people with disability and/or deaf backgrounds.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Expertise in Auslan interpreting and translation
  • Demonstrated deep understanding of Deaf culture
  • Certified Interpreter qualifications and NAATI Certification
  • Able to interpret in live performance settings
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
