Practical Coordinator in Biosciences

Delivering engaging laboratory experiences for undergraduate students is a key aspect of this role. You will play a crucial part in ensuring the effective delivery of biology practical classes, working closely with academic staff to design and develop new experiments and activities.

The successful candidate will have experience in a technical laboratory setting and proven ability to manage laboratory resources, equipment maintenance, and safety protocols. Strong organizational skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, and good technical writing skills are essential for this position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with academic staff to create innovative and exciting practical classes aligned with curriculum objectives.
  • Team Management: Supervise and mentor a team of Laboratory Technicians, providing training and support to ensure high-quality laboratory experiences.
  • Laboratory Operations: Oversee laboratory resources, including equipment maintenance and safety protocols, to ensure a safe and efficient learning environment.
  • Administrative Support: Provide administrative support for first-year biology subjects, including communication management and Learning Management System updates.
Requirements:
  • Enthusiastic and experienced laboratory professional with a passion for inspiring students and a commitment to delivering high-quality practical classes in the Biological Sciences.
  • Strong tertiary qualification in science, majoring in Botany, Ecology, Genetics, Zoology, or other biological sciences.
  • Experience in managing laboratory teams and overseeing complex laboratory operations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex biological and technical problems efficiently.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain constructive working relationships across diverse groups.
