Senior Legal Counsel Opportunity

This is a senior legal counsel opportunity for a global organization operating in the Australian market. The role involves providing commercial legal advice on structuring complex financial products and regulatory guidance.

The ideal candidate will be a trusted business advisor, with experience covering derivatives, financial instruments, and/or swaps products. They will have strong integrity, a disciplined work ethic, and a self-starter attitude.

  • Provide commercial legal advice on structuring complex financial products;
  • Legal analysis of organizational obligations;
  • Work on regulatory and legal matters across various areas including financial services, corporate governance, competition law, technology regulation, intellectual property protection, information security, privacy, and marketing compliance;
  • Respond to regulatory queries as required;
  • Provide regular reports on regulatory activities and escalate material issues as needed.

The suitable candidate will have:

  • 8-12 years of PQE as a financial markets lawyer with experience covering derivatives, FICC, and/or swaps products;
  • Experience operating at a senior level in financial markets from an in-house, private practice, or regulatory context;
  • Understanding of the legal, operational, compliance, and regulatory issues arising in financial markets;
  • Experience dealing with regulators, lawyers, and market participants, demonstrating the ability to leverage personal and professional networks;
  • Experience implementing corporate governance and compliance practices.
