As a key member of our engineering team, you'll collaborate with cross-functional groups, supporting them with their biggest search challenges and helping them learn best practices.

You'll define and communicate our search technology strategy, working closely with leadership to guide technical leads.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and solve systemic technical challenges, improving search architecture and preventing issues in accuracy, latency, and relevance.
  • Design and implement advanced search systems, architecting scalable indexing pipelines, query understanding systems, and relevance tuning mechanisms.
  • Advocate for and maintain engineering quality, setting high standards for search excellence and mentoring junior team members.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience designing and implementing search infrastructure using technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, or vector databases.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex search architectures and articulate performance vs. relevance tradeoffs.
  • Ability to teach others, mentoring junior team members and helping them learn search best practices.
  • Pragmatic and flexible approach, comfortable with ambiguity in search requirements and resourceful in solving retrieval problems.
