Melbourne, Victoria, Australia beBeePrevention Full time $75,617 - $84,995
Research Opportunity: Understanding Core Competencies and Prevention

This project aims to enhance our understanding of core competencies and mechanisms in the development and prevention of problem behaviour and poor mental health in adolescent and early adult years.

Job Overview:

The role focuses on building upon Positive Youth Development (PYD) literature and classical Greek philosophy, exploring how civic and social engagement can be used to develop important social and emotional competencies.

These competencies play a crucial role in helping adolescents navigate critical risk factors that emerge during adolescence, thereby preventing the development of problem behaviours and poor mental health.

The project will utilize Australian, US, and international longitudinal studies to examine key social and emotional core competencies that can be cultivated in schools, communities, and homes to prevent problem behaviour and mental ill-health.

About the Project:
  • Problem behaviour and mental health disorders exhibit a significant increase during adolescence, peaking in early adulthood.
  • Understanding the preventative measures for these issues is critical to global health.
Key Objectives:
  • To develop targeted interventions to improve local and global health outcomes.
  • To cultivate social and emotional competencies in adolescents, preventing problem behaviour and mental ill-health.
Methodology:

The project employs a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques.

Australian, US, and international longitudinal studies will be utilized to investigate the mechanisms and processes of key social and emotional core competencies.

Expected Outcomes:
  • The development of effective interventions to prevent problem behaviour and mental ill-health in adolescents.
  • Improved understanding of the role of social and emotional competencies in preventing problem behaviour and mental ill-health.
