Job Title: Aboriginal Family Centred Youth Justice Practitioner

Position Overview:

The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) is committed to supporting and advocating for the Aboriginal Community, with a focus on reducing contact with the youth justice system for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Aboriginal Family-Centred Youth Justice Practitioner, you will work closely with Aboriginal young people aged 10-14 years and their families, offering intensive case management and therapeutic support. This includes outreach support in homes, community, and over the phone, collaborating closely with families and other services, respecting kinship structures.

You will also provide group diversion activities, culture-based programs, education workshops, and family support to address challenges before escalation.

Requirements:
  • Commitment to VACCA's values and purpose
  • Diploma or Degree in Community Services, Social Work, or Psychology
  • 3-5 years of case management experience in child welfare
  • Understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal cultures and communities
  • Experience in community services, justice, or education sectors
  • Ability to engage authentically with Aboriginal families and children, using respectful and culturally appropriate communication
  • Knowledge of child development, attachment, trauma, and risk assessment
  • Valid Police Check, Working with Children's Check (or willingness to obtain), Victorian Driver Licence, and current COVID-19 vaccination (strongly recommended)
