Ecological Specialist

We are seeking a passionate and capable mid-level Ecologist with 3+ years consulting experience to join our Brisbane or Gold Coast office. As an Ecological Specialist, you will be involved in diverse projects across ecological assessments, development approvals, and environmental management for major infrastructure and urban planning initiatives.

As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for undertaking field assessments independently across South East Queensland, including flora and fauna surveys, habitat assessments, and environmental constraints mapping.

  • Prepare clear, concise technical reports to support development applications (DA), operational works (OPW), and ecological management plans.
  • Utilise QGIS to analyse and present ecological data in spatial context.
  • Ensure alignment with relevant State and Commonwealth environmental legislation and planning frameworks.
  • Collaborate with planners, engineers, and other environmental specialists to deliver integrated project outcomes.
  • Support project delivery including time management, client liaison, and documentation.

What we're looking for:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Ecology, Zoology, Botany or a related field.
  • A strong working knowledge of SEQ ecosystems and regional ecology.
  • Proven experience conducting fieldwork in SEQ, ideally with independent planning and delivery capability.
  • Proficiency in QGIS and ecological mapping.
  • Experience preparing ecological reports for DA / OPW applications, monitoring, or management purposes.
  • Current driver's licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to work within a multidisciplinary project team.
