Quantum Sensing Position

We are seeking a Senior Scientist to join our Quantum Sensing team in Sydney, Australia. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing quantum control protocols on real quantum sensor hardware and assisting with the development, operation, and analysis of next-generation atom interferometer based quantum sensors.

Our project aims to improve hardware performance and accelerate pathways to useful quantum computers and other technologies. We believe that controlling quantum systems is key to unlocking their full potential.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with experimental physicists, quantum control engineers, and sensor hardware specialists to implement quantum control protocols on real quantum sensor hardware.
  • Assist with the development, operation, and analysis of next-generation atom interferometer based quantum sensors to achieve maximum sensitivity and robustness for various applications.
  • Plan and lead the delivery of technical goals and milestones within program frameworks.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Quantum Sensing Research Division, the Quantum Sensing Engineering Division, and the company more broadly.
  • Liaise as needed with academic and industry partners to perform duties and support new business and product development.
  • Share insights into control-augmented quantum sensing with the broader Quantum Sensing Division, company, external stakeholders, and customers through verbal presentations and written outlets.

Requirements

  • A PhD (or equivalent industry experience) in physics, engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experimental experience in one or more of the following: atom interferometry; cold and/or ultracold atomic systems; and/or quantum sensing in warm atomic vapours.
  • A track record of technical leadership.
  • Experience in sensor operation, automation, and data fusion.
  • An understanding of dominant performance limits in fieldable systems.
  • Familiarity with the Python programming language for scientific computing would be great but not essential.
